Default politics in Braddock

hi all, i'm wondering more about the political situation in braddock. i've read the long thread on braddock that's been on this forum for a while, it's a great start, and i've hunted down all the related articles i can, but some questions still stand:

how long is the mayor's term in office? who sits on the borough council? what exactly are the powers of the mayor, and what are the powers of the council, and what other political bodies are in power in braddock? will the mon-fayette x-way be built through braddock -- what's the latest news?

i'm totally into what fetterman wants to do, and i'd be so ready to move there and be part of it if only i knew there's a good chance he'll remain in power, that those of us who are on his wavelength can get into power, and that our works will not all be for nothing when a freeway bulldozes its path through town!

Here's the article that got me started about Braddock. http://readymademag.com/printarchive/article?id=1200 (broken link)

You may have to sign in to view it... I did

But it sounds like an exciting proposition -- to revitalize a place with art.

And, Seaharbour -- even though I am tired of the gangs and mess I live in, and you've had some scary times where you live, a lot of people would rather live on the edge to experience this sort of revitilization.

i'm not necessarily into revitalizing braddock with art, but i am into building a little nucleus of activity, recycling existing materials (brick) into a lean little neighborhood, in the middle of an urban wasteland, assuming the price is right and the rules are flexible. it sounds like the artists and other people gravitating toward braddock (maybe there's a one or two dozen of these people, probably more) -- they seem like they'd be down with my ideas.

i got in touch with the mayor and he said his term was half over, a four year term ending in two years. another person i spoke to thinks the boro council is up for election in a year or so, and i've noticed that other boros in the area have 5-year council terms and don't necessarily elect all council members, but appoint some. my sense so far is that braddock is so cash-strapped that it doesn't have much more in the way of political hierarchy and that the county is the next higher-up political force.

anybody have experience with these boro politics?

Braddock's mayor rocks! And if you run for council Alice, good luck, and do please work with the mayor to get stuff done. He's done a terrific job so far, but the city has a long way to go.

Braddock residents would be crazy to not reelect their mayor. He's the bomb! I wish he'd run for county commissioner (since I can't vote for Pittsburgh mayor)!

The article below says he's up for re-election in 2010 and plans to run again.

http://www.popcitymedia.com/features/fetterman0425.aspx

I'm sure he'd love to answer your questions personally if you picked up the phone and called him.
