Anything marked CCCP marked things were all fake by 1990. I got taken on a pocket watch in Berlin.

Never mattered to me that it was a touristy souvenir. I just liked it. Besides, if it were real and used, it would probably be pretty disgusting, y'know? Vodka backwash and lord knows what else.

The deals in the markets weren't on the trinkets, though it was fun to haggle and just talk to all the characters. The real bargains to be had in Sofia were getting handmade table linens to spec.

If Pitt wins tonight in Miami, it should go to another meaningless bowl. Probably the one in Birmingham again. I respect the fact that some Pitt fans don't think there is a need for a new on campus facility. I would just like to dis-spell a few myths.
This notion that that Pitt gets recruits because they share practice facilities and a stadium helps them get recruits is true, just not top recruits. If a four or five star recruit goes to a stadium like Ohio State or Notre Dame etc. and there is a great college atmosphere with 90,000 plus in attendance, this will outweigh the fact that "you get to play in the same stadium as the Stillers'' when only 30,000 are in the stands at Pitt's Homecoming and the rest are putrid yellow seats. Look at the schools that most Pitt recruits were recruited by. They were largely MAC schools like Toledo and Akron and smaller D1, for the most part. These are the kids who get all starry about sharing the facility with the Steelers. A five star is still going to pick Alabama or Florida State with their programs and atmosphere rather the fact that they get to share facilities. Don't forget, their facilities are state of the art also.
Another thing proponents of Heinz Field like to claim about on campus proponents is that they all lament the loss of Pitt Stadium. This may be true for some, but most realized that Pitt Stadium was outdated.
I do agree that the questions of cost and location are legitimate. Like the saying goes "Where there's a will there's way." We should not throw our hands up and say "Oh, we can't do it" That is a defeatist attitude. The Steelers will be adding 3500 seats by next year to bring Heinz Field capacity up to about 70,000. Pitt does need to play in a stadium of 70,000 or even 60,000 for that matter. A nice stadium in the 45,000 to 50,000 should be sufficient. UPMC could finance such a stadium tomorrow. Location? That would be challenging. There are a few choices like the area by the Cost Center or maybe razing parts or extreme South Oakland. It can be done with studies and $$$.

Unless you can cite sources, you are not dispelling myths; you are simply offering your opinion.

The organizers of the Pinstripe Bowl would LOVE to have a Pitt/PSU matchup to sell.

Why? There's no longer a rivalry and neither team is significant.

There would be some politics involved to make that happen as the Pinstripe is supposed to be selected from the third through sixth best ACC team vs fifth through seventh B1G team and both Pitt and PSU are 6-6 and basically 10th in their respective leagues.

But of potential matchups, as Michigan isn't bowl eligible and ND will seek a bigger payday, PSU would have the biggest alumni base in the NYC area. And of potential ACC opponents, Pitt has more alumni in the area than Louisville or Georgia Tech - not to mention plenty would travel from WPa for it. It's possible they pick Louisville, which has a history of bowl support, or even BC (which hasn't since Flutie), but with Pitt's win tonight, it's certainly now a possibility.

fwiw, Pitt beat Miami, but then again, Miami just isn't what it used to be.

Hopefully, PSU isn't either.
