New Pittsburgh Business Times report on regions wealthiest zip codes (sometimes access gets restricted after a certain time). I'm not familiar with Bradford Woods but it is listed as the wealthiest zip, followed by Upper St. Clair and Wexford.

"Which suburb has the wealthier communities, the North Hills or the South Hills? Answer: eight of the top 10 wealthiest ZIP codes are in the North Hills, one in the south and one west.
What are the wealthiest communities with at least a population of 10,000? No. 3 is Mars (16046). No. 2 is Wexford (15090). No. 1 wealthiest ZIP code? Click through to find out.
Here is one bonus fact outside the top 50. Which ZIP code within the City of Pittsburgh ranks highest? Squirrel Hill (15217) ranked 62nd.
Only ZIP codes with 100 or more households and populations of at least 200 are included in this listing. The information is from Esri, which uses U.S. Census Bureau data to calculate the 2013 estimated figures."

Zip codes make for poor demographic barometers in the greater Pittsburgh region, because a few notable exceptions aside (the aforementioned Bradford Woods and USC, along with Monroeville, West Mifflin, and a few others) the vast majority don't even remotely correlate with neighborhood/municipal lines (152xx especially).

Zip codes don't work in our region like that. For example part of Fox Chapel's zip code is shared with Sharpsburg and another part of Fox Chapel's zip code is shared with Blawnox. You can imagine what that would do to their rankings. You can only do wealthiest by township or borough. Believe me Bradford Woods isn't even close to the wealthiest place around our region. The two wealthiest places are Fox Chapel and Sewickley Heights and there is a huge gap down from there.

^^I don't think zip codes work like that in any large metro area. It's just a metric some of these list makers use.

Yeah it is kind of a joke. Bradford Woods has an average income of around $110K or something. FC is almost 3 times that amount. Not even close. I guess zip codes are easy to calculate without doing any real work.

They work better in some than others. A lot of South Jersey municipalities have zip codes that almost completely conform to municipal lines. Many Southeastern PA zip codes correlate fairly closely to unincorporated villages within a township (or sometimes townships as it were). Tons of tiny (sub-10,000 person zips) where I'm from. But even then, it's still better to opt for municipalities and/or census tracts corresponding to neighborhoods.

The only reason Bradford Woods is highest is because the rich people there managed to keep their own zip code despite there being little justification for such thing. Although, that said, it probably would have all been in 15090 Wexford anyway if they didn't keep it.

I'm guessing that wealthy zip codes are more important to marketing types in business (think mailings) whom this particular publication would be relevant to rather then the general public.

The poor people in Pitcairn managed to keep their own zip code as well (same with East Pittsburgh and Turtle Creek, incidentally) so I don't know how much wealth has to do with it, though if be shocked if politics didn't play at least some role in their mind-bogglingly inconsistent system.
