Does anyone know how large the US airways facility is in Pittsburgh? I am looking into getting a job there in aviation maintenance.

There are 675 US Air jobs in maintenance here, and the union is confident about the future. American maintenance folks in Dallas aren't as experienced in working on Airbuses as the US Air men, the expertise of the staff here seems to be needed.

Good luck.... I wouldn't put all my eggs in the USAirways basket in Pittsburgh. The maintenance and flight coordination center are all that is left. USAirways was the largest for profit employer in the pittsburgh region till 2004. They employed 12,000 people here. Only 1,500 or so people left.

I'm also interested in getting a job at the USAirways MTX facility in Pittsburgh. I found that same article on TribLIVE last week. According to it, it seems likely that after the merger goes through, the New American will keep it running because of the experience they have with A320s. Sounds like the OPs center isn't going to be as lucky. I found another relatively recent article yesterday in aviationtoday, and what I'd like to know is if the heavy maintenance performed at PIT is mostly avionics or if it's also heavy (c and d) airframe checks. Anybody know?

USAirways has proven that they aren't dedicated or committed to this area. Tread lightly.

I don't think you can say that at all.

US Airways went out of business, the current firm known as "US Airways" used to be known as America West, and has a fairly short history around here. Just because they bought the name of the company that used to be here, doesn't mean you can attach all of the problems of the defunct company to them, just because they assumed their name.

I don't know how much has changed since I worked there a few years ago with regards to maintenance. When I did work there, I remember them doing at least C checks on the Airbus A319, A320 and sometimes an A321 came in. Most Boeing 737 and 757 planes were taken to Charlotte for the heavy checks. The 767 and A330 planes had their checks done in Miami or Mobile since the PIT hangars weren't exaclty big enough.
