Getting rid of all of the previous administrations cronies is pretty standard but what usually happens is that new cronies are put in their place. On the surface it seems like Peduto isn't doing that:
Quote:
Postings for volunteer governance positions were posted Wednesday on Pittsburgh is Talent City | Talent City, an initiative administered by The Pittsburgh Foundation. According to the announcement, the deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2014. The $275,000 Talent City initiative is supporting the new administration in assembling the team to help lead Pittsburgh "into a new era of development."

The announcement went into some detail as to how new candidates will be vetted:
"Under the Talent City program, launched by the Foundation in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh’s Institute of Politics, all candidates for the posted board positions will be screened by a specialized bipartisan selection committee. A final slate of qualified board candidates will be forwarded to the Mayor for review prior to the scheduled February meetings of each of the boards, authorities and commissions. The mayor may choose from these short-lists or request additional appointees for his consideration."
Interesting to see how that plays out and if he really is going to run thing differently.

IMO I cannot see any department head in Public Safety surviving the ax. It would be political suicide to keep the Public Safety Director or any of the public safety department heads or assistants. What he does with Public safety will be the litmus test. If he keeps the current safety director it will be business as usual and nothing will change.

I haven't seen this kind of enthusiasm in the region since Bob O'Connor was elected. Whether or not Peduto is a good mayor, I don't care. The mood of the city has changed for the better. The momentum is starting to roll.

I like Mr. O'Conner, he was Mayor 24/7. Too bad he didn't get the time to change things.

Really? O'Connor seemed like a nice enough guy but was almost a caricature of the classic old time Pittsburgh hack politician. I was pretty embarrassed for the city when he was elected.

In my book, all politicians are corrupt. There was a vibrancy and hopefulness with residents when O'Connor was elected. Ravenstahl was completely different. A sense of gloom and apathy filled the city.
