I have a question about the Garden at Market Square: The earlier renderings I saw here made it look like it was located on Market between the square and 5th, the construction cam looks like it is east of the square between Forbes and 4th, just looking for a clarification.

Thanks.

It's on Forbes, just east of Market Square.

It is east of Market Square between Forbes and 4th. It is occupying land that previously had a National Record Mart, George Aikens, an another business.

PNC just updated the website for their new Tower at PNC Plaza. It states that structural steel is 63% complete and overall construction is 31% complete. The fact that structural steel is 63% complete does not necessarily mean that the building has reached 63% of it's height. Remember that the building narrows at the top, so it is actually closer to half of it's peak height than it is to 2/3. It just notes that they have used 63% of the steel that will be needed. If the tower would be a more more uniform shape from top to bottom, we could pinpoint exactly how high 63% is. Since the shape fluctuates as it gets higher, it is only about half of its height more or less.

Interesting article about local manufacturing of components for PNC's tower.

A major chunk of PNC tower's new glass 'skin' being built in Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Anyone else just a little disappointed PNC was scaled back from 40 floors to 30?

It was never 40 floors to begin with. The tower will rise 33 stories. The solar chimney will add additional height above that. It will have an impact on the skyline.

Walked past it this morning...those guys have some big ones to be up there in this cold/wind these past few days.

I'm looking out my building right now and it looks like they could be starting the angled portion of the framework...but I haven't done a floor count yet...

It would have been nice to see it rise 40 stories but at the same time they needed to build a building that would fit their needs. PNC already owns a building that has a hotel, condos, and a law firm in it so there was no need for mixed use. With the completion of The Tower, PNC will have 5 buildings downtown, and should have the room it needs for a while.

I think PNC would rather go greener than taller.
