Baring a political solution it is far more likely that we will wind up with one integrated health system (UPMC) that isn't even constrained by a having to deal with an independent insurance company. As far as providing healthcare, this isn't Germany going to war with Russia. This is Germany invading Poland.

Can't imagine how dumbfounded a person living in Canada would be if you attempted to describe what's going on in our city to them. It's such a joke.

Try being a Canadian living here. I'm pretty sure on I'm regularly on the edge of aneurysm every time I read something about it or see a commercial. But frankly, it's a national joke, a national nightmare of a joke, not just limited to Pittsburgh. There is nothing anyone can do to explain to me why people accept this system. Even moreso since it's actually relevant to my interests, having to choose something from the ACA exchanges (talk about jokes).

The new employer options are the same joke. All three plans had the same high out of pocket expense limit. I'm no idiot. A lower deductible isn't going to save me money paying a higher premium and having the same out of pocket expenses as the cheapest plan. For the first time in my life, I chose the cheapest plan for that reason. All of the other plans were more expensive when I did calculated the premiums into the spreadsheet. The actual coverage sucks compared to health insurance of any time period in my life. There was huge jump in healthcare costs this year for everyone.

No so for us. Plan cost and coverage stayed pretty much the same.

You have the health insurance for military retirees, right?

My husband has that as secondary insurance. We also have regular insurance through his employer.

Highmark's Allegheny Health Network was formed last year:

I'm aware of that too. It's irrelevant to me because my husband's health insurance isn't from this region.

I can go to any doctor or any facility I want.

I've seen the ads on TV, and Patrice King still looks pretty good. I was at Langley (a few years behind) at the same time she was.
