In order to avoid traffic today, I took a ridiculous detour that landed me on the craziest street I've ever seen in the Pittsburgh area (and its only a quarter mile from my house!). I thought I'd start a thread discussing the roughest streets to drive on in our city. SCR if you think some of the streets you deliver to are bad, this one would make you crap your pants

There's an incredible view of the city right above that bend at the end of Forrester St.

I've had to do a multiple point turn on that street before, crazy stuff. Only other place I've had to do that has been here:

Of course though anything on Pittsburgh's Dirty Dozen Bike Race is pretty crazy.

I've always found this stretch of road behind Penn Center East (below the bridge near Kohl's) to be particularly steep, albeit for a short stretch. I would also nominate the top of Coleman St. in Greenfield. And there is always Rialto.

Also particularly fond of this well known stretch of GlenMawr in Sheraden. The multiple tight blind curves, low overpasses, encroaching vegetation, and steps practically in the road (at the bottom near Carson) make this a fun stretch of road. Most GPS systems would send drivers to our house via this route which I'm sure was confusing and a bit nervewracking, especially at night.

When people talk about Pittsburgh being hilly they always mention South Side Slopes and Mt. Washington. But really the whole west end is built in between hills and is really cool when you get to a point to look down on some parts.

Mt. Washington's William St. can be a crazy drive down the mountain, steep and winding.

Another crazy drive is Lakewood in Elliott from Lorenz down to the south portal of the Corliss Tunnel. An interesting and steep hairpin turn awaits on the final descent down to Corliss

I drove down South Negley from Sq Hill to Shadyside in a snowstorm recently. It's not the worst in the city and it's a straight shot, but I clenched my teeth imagining sliding the whole way down and across Fifth.

A coworker of mine lost control of his car there years back. He ended up having to purposefully steer it into a snowbank to stop it from careening into the intersection.
