Pittsburgh Mayor Peduto proposes $16M for schools to boost population | TribLIVE
Just a guess but the article you linked said:

Quote:
Peduto said he would consider refunding to the school district a portion of 0.25
percent in wage tax — which amounted to about $16.2 million in 2013 — that was
moved from the district to the city when the city fell under state financial
oversight.
So that would be my guess.

Where did this $16M figure come from, and whey should be believe that this sum is what will turn around the PPS?

I find the idea that $16M is going to turn the school district around to be nothing short of ridiculous. This is nothing more than political pandering to those that think schools are under funded.

I like that! He is actually doing something about the MASSIVE waste. Maybe he can really cut some fat from the ridiculous stuff that goes on at the taxpayer's expense. At least this is something and shouldn't be discounted by people in the city. Never understood why people put up with so much waste.

There are always people yelling and threatening or whatever, but the city can only truly afford a certain amount, unless they continue to operate in total debt which seems to be all government's style. to Corbett and Peduto.

Staying within the constraints of Act 47 was one of Peduto's campaign promises so it shouldn't be a suprise that he's still in favor of it. From the text of that policy paper, it looks like he wants the act to stay in force until at least 2018.

He's made a lot of noise coming in. Hopefully, he can deliver on his vision of a rapid transit system. It won't be easy, but I'm worried it will be mostly talk and no action.
