For the past three years we have had season tickets to the series. It is one of my favorite things about living in Pittsburgh. I haven't been to a boring one yet--even when it has been an author I don't know much about, they have been interesting. They have featured people as varied as David Nasaw, Erik Larson, and Sue Grafton. Justice Sotomayor was there last week and Helene Cooper was on Monday. I am vey excited to see Collum McCann next month.
I haven't seen much discussion about Pittsburgh's cultural events on this forum so I was curious about who is attending what. The events are always crowded so someone is attending!

They are a great series of events to attend if you've got the money to do so. We used to and enjoyed it immensely. Last one I went to was Thomas Keller a few years back. Saw Gen. Schwartzkopf, Geo. Will, Doris Kearns and a few others.

Pitts burgh A& L is something different. They are held at the Carnegie Music Hall.
Pitt students can get free tickets sometimes. Tickets on the top balcony are only $10.
I really enjoyed seeing Rebecca Skloot, who wrote the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.

Saw Bill Bryson there a few years ago. He was hysterical.

They do a really nice job of getting in people who meet a range of tastes. They also seem good at choosing dynamic speakers--not everyone who can write a gripping book is a good storyteller in person (and vice-versa). I saw Jared Diamond, whose work I find difficult to read, and he was so funny and engaging. I recommend these lectures to anyone interested in writing and writers. And the venue is gorgeous, without a bad seat in the house.
(And no, I am not a paid promoter!)
I think, for a city of its size, Pittsburgh has a lot of interesting events like this.
