I too love Pittsburgh's nooks and crannies. I'd love to have a secluded spot like that place above the Birmingham bridge but not with a set of city steps running past it.

One of my favorite crannies is Toboggan Street.

All of that was part of the neighborhood of Soho, which ran from the bottom of Robinson St., at Fifth Ave., west to Jumonville. There were houses all along Forbes, and the houses ran all the way down to Second Ave. Soho School, which was one of several nearly identical Italianate schools built around 1870, stood on Fifth Ave., just east of the Birmingham Bridge. Morse School on Sarah St., and Springfield School on Smallman, are the only two of these left standing. Bellefield School, which sat on Fifth Ave. in Oakland, burned in 1957, and Soho was quickly closed the next year. Morse lasted until 1980, but Springfield fell victim to the decline of the Strip as a residential area, and was closed due to declining enrollment in the 1930's.

I too **LOVE** Pittsburgh's nooks.

The beauty of living here is that you can have secluded country living minutes from the city.

From a geological standpoint, if the hillsides are unstable areas, I can completely understand the city wanting to restrict new buildings.

Below West End Overlook, there was a nook, with beautiful houses, & they became unstable. I was in them *after* they were condemned, it was so sad to see, because they were beautiful inside & had great view.

Is everyone getting weird/different Google Maps as of about three days ago? This one takes me to a basic map of metro Pittsburgh, with the city itself outlined in broken red dashes. No West End Overlook. No nook. No pictures of anything, actually. Just the map of Pgh.

Has Google once again fixed something that wasn't broken?

I don't see Dumas st & Corfu. What clicking streetview shows me is Grant St at the William Penn.

I tried to post a screen capture of the map I see, but city-data won't let me. It said I have to key "at least one character," even though I had typed plenty of characters.

Is anyone else seeing what I'm seeing?

The bottom of that street is great. The top looks like it hasn't been touched in 50 years! Hard to believe people actually live up there.

Yes. This "improvement" is annoying.

It's more difficult to see the map and pictures because the new control features take up much of the screen.

I'm beyond frustrated by it.

Something weird happened to the link when you posted it, Jay. If I click on the link in Catia's post, it is

"https://maps.google.com/maps?num=50&q=corfu+st+at+dumas+pittsburgh+pa+1522 0&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x8834f69f8865c30f:0x178a6c3753a2b6db, Dumas+St+%26+Corfu+St,+Pittsburgh,+PA+15220&gl=us& ei=Z_j-UszeEaLiyAHl3oCoDA&ved=0CCgQ8gEwAA"

but in your post, it is
"https://maps.google.com/maps?num=50&q=google+maps+pittsburgh&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x8834f16f48068503:0x8df915a15aa21b34, Pittsburgh,+PA&gl=us&ei=Bvf-Uq-ZOcKfyQGY2YDQCg&ved=0CCYQ8gEwAA"

somehow, the "corfu+st+at+dumas+pittsburgh+pa+15220" became "google+maps+pittsburgh" and that is why it is just showing you the map of Pgh.
