I'd advise you to stay away from there too! My dad grew up there in its hay day. Now its just so bad, I wouldn't even drive through there nowadays! We had to move my gram out of there since it got so bad. She lived off of Arlington for most of her life and when shootings kept happening in her neighborhood, that was enough to finally get her out of there. Look down Brownsville more towards Brentwood for affordale houseing if school district doesn't matter.

Gosh...this is scary! I fear getting lost in the bad areas when we arrive, anyone care to direct me to a list of bad areas someone posted or can someone compile me a list and maybe Pm me?

I never would of thought of Mt Oliver when I think of bad areas, I tend to think of the Hill district, Wilkinsburg, and Homewood to name a few here..but I grew up on the eastside so that may be why, maybe I just heard of those "more".

That is not true at all. We live near Homewood and Wilkinsburg and there is no reason for us to drive through either of them to get anywhere.

It is funny how I felt about the time I spent in Mt. Oliver. I visited there pretty often when I was a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate.)

I did occasionally feel uncomfortable when I was in the business district area - usually just driving through. However, I felt little to no discomfort at all when I was driving in the residential district.

It may have had something to do with the idea that the home I was visiting was probably the most dangerous on the street.

And it will probably amaze some, but I sure do miss those days.

I do hear gunshots just about every week. I didn't say I hear them outside of my window, I said when we have the windows open you can hear them.

That wasn't even the point, the point I made was that you stated the "bad" areas on the east side are areas you have to go through to get to the good areas, which is not true. I use South Braddock, Forbes Avenue, and drive Penn Avenue down to Washington Blvd to get to Aspinwall/Fox Chappel and never enter a "bad" area. Same thing with Mt Oliver; you would have to be dreadfully lost to even go near it. I work in the South Hills and drive either West Liberty or Banksville Road to get to where I work and never come near Mt Washington/Mt Oliver area at all.

You live in Pt breeze..and share the zip code of 15221 with Wilkinsburg, so you are very close to possibly the worse area in the area...and you had posted that you heard gun shots outside you window..I read the post myself here...its your life, if you want to live there, that is your Choice and right, but its also my right and choice to inform people whom are worried bout bad areas to not get stuck into one...this comes from my own personal experience, I had lived in a very bad area, that you had to cross ghehttos to get into a nice safe area, it was a beautiful area, till you left it and I was a also a victim of crime as well cause of where I lived, so excuse me if I am a bit wounded here for having to have lived in bad area...I mean no ill feelings towards you, yes i am rather senstive cause i been hurt here....

I live in Point Breeze too! Do you like it? I have heard gunshots from Homewood on occasion also (but not recently). However, I've been really happy living here. I like it, and my neighbors are all very nice. I don't think I'd recommend it to just anyone, but it's not nearly as bad as people think.

Also, the relative crime rates for Pt. Breeze and other city areas are not what you might expect given the reputation it has.

The way you present it makes it sound as though the shots are directly outside my window. I stated, and will find the post and quote it, that I can hear shots when we have the windows open.
