Stay out of New Castle proper, look at the suburbs.

Ellwood city borough is not bad. If you don't mind driving a bit you could look at hermitage or board man / poland area in ohio

New Castle has some nice residential sections: upper North Hill, Neshannock, Shenango, and Union townships are all very nice. Poor New Castle gets a bad rap sometimes. It went through a massive de-industrialization in the 1980s and continues to have problems as a result of that. But there are still great areas to live.

The 'suburbs' of New Castle are relatively rural, dotted with small boroughs and villages. They're as safe as any other rural area. The northern part of the Lawrence County (Neshannock, Wilmington) has a lot of Amish. The eastern and southern parts (Shenango, Laurel, Ellwood) are relatively expensive due to the proximity to Pittsburgh and Cranberry. The western part (Union, Mohawk) is close to shopping in Boardman and Poland.

New Castle proper has (or used to have) a lot of drug-related crime and a crappy school district. But it's extremely cheap with move-in ready houses less than $40K, a lot at $20K. The same type houses in Shenango, Neshannock, Mohawk or Laurel would run you $100-200K more. I don't know how that translates to rents.

Question new castle question

I am looking for similar info as we might be relocating to the NewCastle area. Does anyone have info on the best school districts within 1/2 hour driving/commute distance to New Castle area? Any good soccer clubs for kids?

The North Sewickley school district is good and at the northern part of the district probably 20-25 minutes away.

I agree that Riverside is a decent district. Also has a very good soccer program.
