I know, I know, nobody likes the truth in BuccoLand...but eventually you have to face it...after they regress.

I agree. They won 94 games last season. That is very impressive. They are not as good on paper as they were at the end of last year, but should finish .500.

The irritating thing is they will technically "regress" to like 88 wins just because it's just really hard to win 94 games and the schedule is a bit tougher and the division is getting better, etc., and erieguy will come in here trumpeting about how he was right all along.

erieguy doesn't realize Ednison Volquez, by mere fact of joining the Pirates, is now a Cy Young candidate!

Seriously, going by Pythagorean projections, but Bucs should've only won 88-89 games last year. So they got away with a few "lucky" wins, especially in April/May when they weren't hitting and winning pretty much on bullpen alone. So 88 wins this year wouldn't really be much, if any, regression at all, considering there are no weak links in interleague this year and their WC competitors pretty much all got better (except the Reds).

I see them either getting the 2nd WC spot or falling a game short. Nats/Cards/Dodgers win their divisions, Braves and either Bucs/Giants/DBacks get the WCs.

Wow, giving up already?

When you have I believe the 3rd lowest payroll in the league(could be wrong), and you are as successful as they were last year, and you're making huge amounts of money, now is the time to acquire MLB talent rather than constant minor league talent. Everything they threw at the wall stuck last year. If you truly want to win you pay up to try to keep it going. That is not their intention. Its all about making money and if people continue to buy into thinking they truly care about winning, Id do the same thing as Bob and keep paying down that debt.

Edit: Their over under for wins is 85.5 and they're 25/1 to win it all. Those that believe they're going to win more than 85 should have no reason to deprive themselves of winning some loot.

If/when you lose more than you did the year prior, you've regressed. All the rationalization one can come up with cannot disprove that.

Ooh, I love this argument.

Please, enlighten us, what exactly would you have done to "pay up" this winter?
