This was just on last week on our PBS station out here -- and what fun it was... I didn't know about Hartwood Acres!

I was thrilled to find out Woody Dambaugh's Christmas Tree Farm in Fombell was still going strong! I don't think they called it that -- I think it was Lake Forest Gardens? but they mentioned the Dambaugh name. We went there every year to cut a fresh tree. It was part of the Christmas tradition.

(Our Christmas tradition is going to Krispy Kreme for donuts and coffee and heading over to Lowe's... works for us, but it really isn't the same -- but the you cut trees out here are running about 50 - 100 bucks. I can get a plantation doug fir for 26.... although I miss the hot cider laced with Brandy...)

Frankly, I just love all the Rick Sebak's stuff, and make a point to watch whatever it is whenever it's on....

When I was a little girl, my grandfather, who had a tree farm in Wisconsin, would cut down one of his trees and send it to us in Beaver Falls in a TV antenna box. (Obviously, this was in the old days when people had antennas, not satellites, on their roofs.) After he died, my dad (his son-in-law) started growing his own trees in BF and cutting one down at Christmastime. My dad even sent us one out here in Colorado one time. We have gone to the National Forests sometimes to cut down trees. Lots of memories revolve around Christmas trees.

I love their cake donuts -- but the plain raised glazed Krispy Creme is WAY too sweet -- and this from a major sweet freak. But my faves are what I call the Pittsburgh Creme -- which is what Mr Donut called them when they were still in business. Creme filled yeast doughnut with chocolate glaze on top.

But my biggest gripe with KK is probably a local thing -- they have taken away the pots of cream or milk from the coffee fixings counter... and I use so much milk in my coffee that I end up with 6 or 7 creamers -- and it's CREAM! I'd much rather have a big hit of 1% milk....

Although since I'm sitting there sucking down donuts, it ain't gonna be the cream that kills me!
