Default Cheers to the new 10% drink Tax--Give me the freakin Bottle !

Once again the tax man came calling tonight as the brilliant heads that govern this burgh and the county in which the burgh is located, easily passed yet another tax onto the public. This time for those that enjoy a drink or four at local bars and resturants within the county. Say hello to the 10% drink tax. Also rental cars will be taxed as well to some degree. A portion of this 'poured money' will attempt to fund the shrinking Port Authority... " give me the bottle and forget the drink"
Oh yeh and maybe if I do drink the entire bottle the same political stiffs that gave the ok to build the huge concrete bunker parking lot for Detroit Don's casino along the North Shore will somehow become tokens for the slot machine. Full Insertion Baby !!!

Amen brother. It's rediculous. Tax and spend, tax and spend.

Check out Allegheny Institute for a full documentation of the foolishness of state, county, and local politicians.

And we wonder why we have zero private sector job growth since 2000.

Thanks Kpoeppel ! I think I may find pictures of these pathetic wannabe politicians and frame them as some wild wall art. Somehow they even resemble one another physically. Scarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry !!

Here's some fodder:

Swallow hard: Pass the county drink and car rental taxes

I have to say the guy makes some good points.

well, the point is that to fund public transit, we should tax those who need/use it the most (ie drunk college kids/youngins at the bars)

This is just an assumption, but I'm not sure how many young and drunk college kids/youngins at the bar are catching buses like after the midnight hour and into the early morning (when we are out the most).

I never do. Do buses even run that late??

We do take Taxi's often enough, though.

Plus, most of the urban Universities include a yearly public transit pass in the tuition. Pitt and CMU both do, so I'm not sure how punishing the broke college kids is gonna help much. They are already forced to pay for a year's worth of transit whether they use it or not.

I wouldn't say that's who uses public transit the most at all. Senior citizens, people who can't afford cars, people who work downtown and other places in the city and don't want to pay out the nose for parking and gas. That's who uses public transit. Like Guylocke said, students ride for free with their IDs, and mostly they're just getting to school and back.

Well we ride for "free" only because the costs are built into our tuition! Like I said, the students are required to purchase a year pass with public transit annually. So it comes out of our pockets still and public transit does recieve that money that they've contracted with the Universities. LOL. But of course I know what you meant.
