Got a great deal on a housing situation in Castle Shannon and I'm right next to Willow Station. Any recommendations on restaurants or entertainment?

I see there is a Shop N Save but didn't see a GE in the vicinity.

Will my commute to work (Station Square) truly be 16 or so minutes taking the T, or should I drive a minute to the Washington Junction and hop on the Mid Mon Valley (which is the last place it can stop to pick up passengers and its on Rt 88)?

Just curious what would be ideal transit wise, I could take a car in but I know 51 is so backed up when I try to get to work which is around 8am.

I don't mind if CS is second banana to Mt Lebanon, no big deal to me.

Giant Eagle is just up Grove Rd at Caste Village, not terribly far at all.

An automobile alternative to 88 and 51 to get to town is up Scott Road and down McFarland to Banksville Rd and the West End Bypass.

you'd do quicker with the LRT car than you would with the bus, IMHO. The bus goes down 88 which can be jammed up in the morning while the T has its own right of way.

Near Shannon, Frisch's up in Caste is a good choice for low brow dining.

there's apparently an excellent Lebanese restaurant in downtown Castle Shannon... maybe sskink could provide some insight?

If you're a percussionist... Drum World is the best percussion store in Pittsburgh.

'Tis lovely, and not crawling with hordes of tourists like Blarney, but I don't think anyone is allowed to reside there...

Oh... THAT Castle Shannon...

Stick with the T for your commute. Go to Dormont sometime for dinner at Mekong's and a movie at the Hollywood. Or to Caste Village for bowling at Princess Lanes. And come to Brookline for coffee and tacos and falafel, but wait until the Blvd gets fixed up because it looks like a bunch of land mines just went off.

Hit up the Linden Grove when there are some bands playing....the dancing that goes on there by the Baby Boomer set is a sight that everyone should see....truly one of the more entertaining nights I have had in a while. The Linden Grove is not hip in any sense of the world, but something you should check out at least once.....

The T runs every 7 minutes during rush hour. You would be at Station Square in under 20 minutes. The Blue Line is one of the easiest commutes to downtown there is.

Amel's on McNeilly while not strictly Lebanese is very good. It seems like they made an effort to really improve the food and beer selection over the past couple of years. Although I am never quite sure if that area is Castle Shannon, Brentwood or even Brookline.

I dont know anything about castle Shanon bc I used to live in Mt Lebanon but I used to park in the parking lot across Castle Shannon and take the T downtown. I had two options which I liked very much: the red line or the blue line. Depending upon the time I'd walk to the blue line.
Living so close to the T station I think that any other form of commuting - for you-will take longer. As for parking at Washington Junction, why do that? That parking lot is smaller and fills up from 6:30am - 7am. when I lived there I took the train and sometimes I'd shop for groceries before going home at night. Not to mention the other shops. I think it's a Bottom Dollar food store, wine store, banks, hardware store, dry cleaning, bakery, pizza places etc, etc don;t remember them all but they are all conveniently located very close to the T station across from ShopNSave.

I guess the closest Giant eagle is in the South Hills? And as far as restaurants go there's plenty of them in Lebo. I like the Egyptian place on Rte 19, close to the T station - the name eludes me - but can't hold a hat in front of Amel who's been in business for more than 20 years.

Also I used to go there to buy groceries and meats at McGinnis sisters. I think they closed down. I dont know if they relocated because I moved out of the area.

Also check out Someone Else's Bar (right on Willow). It's great! Kabob-G is great (also on Willow) and you're a short drive (or T ride) to all the restaurants on Washington Rd. in Mt. Lebanon.

You're in a really great location. There is plenty in walking distance and you're within easy access to both the Red and Blue Line and can access a lot. Definitely take the T...much faster than the bus.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I spend a lot of time in the area.
