Don't qoute me on this, but i think the answer is yes...but could be wrong too! But, from having grown up in Pgh...I know you will be required to have winter tires, not summer ones if my memory serves me right here...you wouldn't want summer tires anyhow in the winter! Trust me on that one!

There is no law stating you have to have any kind of tire on your vehicle. There are snow emergency routes that can only be used in the declaration of a state of emergency, in which vehicles with studded snow tires or chains can be used.

I believe that is somewhat incorrect. If I am not mistaken, there is only a few months (November to April or something like that) when you are even allowed to have studded tires on your car to prevent from unnecessary degradation to the roadways.

So in other words, I am correct. The original question was is there a law for having studded tires on a front wheel drive car, and my answer was, there is no law stating you have to have any kind of tire on at any time of year.

You are indeed correct. There is no law REQUIRING studded tires. There is only a law stating the time period it is permissible to use studs. I think the op was correct in the nov-april-ish time frame.
