I enjoy hockey, but I'm not into it enough that $60 would be worth it to me to sit in the worst seats in the house for one game. $60 is FIVE games at the season ticket rate I'm paying for this seat at PNC.

And as far as student rush goes, aren't those so limited nowadays that you have to wait in line for hours before the game starts to even have a chance at getting one?

I haven't been to a hockey game yet, but I did go to the opening-night McCartney show, and came away thoroughly uninspired. I couldn't put my finger on it - it certainly wasn't a BAD experience by any means - but it was just so...vanilla, I guess.

They're certainly not the worst seats. Theyre season ticket holder seats they aren't using and are selling. If you like those seats at $12 each, great. Pay the Pirates and enable an owner who barely spends and who has put a below average team on the field since hes taken over up until last year. If/when the Pirates become a viable team those tickets will also rise. For now they've been significant for 1/20 years. Either way, if you want to attend an event you do so. Nobody forces anybody to go and pay the prices.

Don't know the whole dealio about student rush. If you're a student and want seats for $20 you wait. If not you pay more. Point is, its offered...and gosh forbid one would have to wait in line for hours for something.

Bingo.

But, but, but, but, the owners, but, the corporations, but, but...

Ok, hate was probably too strong a word, but when you're undertaking a new large scale civic project I expect more. It's a very generic building on the outside & just as uninspiring on the inside. The more you go the more you can tell things they cheaped out on.
Other nit picks- the rows and sections are too large. (Not so important with a concert, but at a game with people coming & going you have to get up quite a bit to let people pass when the rows are 50 or whatever seats across.) Upper concourses are too narrow for as large as the top section is.

Seat views were overall better at Mellon arena.

I will say the foods better but that's a small consolation for having a brand new multimillion dollar taxpayer supporter bland venue.

How was Paul's concert by the way? I've never gone to see him & he's coming back in July & I feel I should see a real Beatle before they all die,

That's not no taxpayer money as the casinos got a government-enforced monopoly on slots (and later table games). Giving away that for less than others were willing to bid for it is just as much spending taxpayer money as any other way.

Sounds like the government is to blame rather than the owners. That's weird.

I certainly blame the government any time they subsidize professional sports, but the owners were asking for the subsidy and threatening to leave without it.

Let them move! Most of the people going to the games are local. If the team moves they will spend the money on something else. Your argument is a politician's argument which does not hold water.

Obviously coming from a non-hockey fan.

Argument holds water without spilling a drop. Games are sold out, there's a waiting list for season tix, and money is being made and entertainment is being had. Nothing else is going to receive that kind of money.
