Just wondering--has anyone ever taken photos of local fire stations? Do you know of local stations that have interesting stories? Or stations that may not have cool stories, but you've always enjoyed seeing them?

I'm going to be up in Pittsburgh this summer and am thinking of doing a photo tour of a few local stations. I've always had a thing for stations that are found in older cities. Some of them are really interesting/ Suggestions?

I believe the (now-closed?) Troy Hill station is supposed to be haunted?

Budgets cuts! It's one thing to close the station, but if they had to lay-off the ghosts, that's just too far.

I was in the Observatory Hill station on Perrysville Ave. I recall it was archicturally and historically interesting, but I can't remember why.

The guy who has the Clemente museum is a local professional photographer. I was in there for a shoot and we got to explore the building. The hose tower was pretty amazing. The photog's name is Duane Rieder.

The Troy Hill station sticks out to me as being particularly awesome (not that I've seen them all or anything).

The station on Brookline Blvd. is still active. It is one of the oldest buildings in the neighborhood.
It includes a tall vertical tower which was used to hang and dry the old canvas fire hoses.

Plus outstanding tacos next door.

Sounds like this is the station to visit at lunch time!

I also recently learned that the peeling paint you notice on the old fan style windows over the garage door is a hangover from the Air Raid Blackouts that occurred during WWII.

What ever happened to the old fire station building on Penn Ave in Point Breeze? I remember it was for sale, but with conditions where the buyer would have to submit a plan that would benefit the neighborhood.
