Well, in Seattle, it's some citizens trying to stop Uber.

"...This is prompted by the assumption, according to the site, that Uber CEO Travis Kalanick is a "sociopath" and that his company is destabilizing and undermining African immigrant communities in Seattle.
"Dozens of cab owners are currently threatened by the unrestrained expansion of Uber, and if the company is allowed to discard any regulation, multiple families will lose a significant portion of their monthly incomes when Uber overtakes the smaller taxi services,"

That's some real lunatic fringe type stuff though. If you search the internet deep enough you'll always find a few crazy voices that oppose everything.

^ oh I didn't really search, I read SFGate and saw the article. I'm actually ok with Lyft and Uber; just thought it was interesting that another city had some citizens protesting them for those reasons. Agree they are more fringe.

Fair enough, but that doesn't change the fact that the taxi business is a licensed profession- and the state legislature and regulators haven't decided what to do about the legal status of Uber and Lyft and whether or not to just deregulate the whole industry and allow a laissez faire system to take its place.

Until they do, and they've had a lot of time already, you can't blame the PUC for enforcing what is already on the books.
