Oh, and I suppose I should vote (though I'm still peeved about the raw deal Brookline received...)

5) Beechview
2) Lawrenceville

I like a lot about Butler Street, but I just couldn't stand living in Larryville. Couldn't breath there, and despite all the gentrification, it's still an ugly old mill neighborhood, in my eyes.

Beechview is my least favorite of the "inner South Hills" neighborhoods; too many houses built after WWII, not enough of a business district, too many junkies, and despite it's name, there aren't nearly enough trees. But it's nicer blocks have some great craftsman-era homes, the topography, while utterly daunting in slick weather, makes for some dynamic views, and it's small business district has some really cool stuff. And it has the 'T' going right down Broadway. So bugger off, Larryville.

12) Central Northside
15) Strip District

I still say the Strip should be DQ'd since only 12 people live there, but regardless, the Central Northside wins due to being a rowhouse neighborhood that actually looks nice (reminds me a LOT of some of the residential sections of Center City, west of Broad). If Allegheny Center ever gets the implosion it deserves and the old Federal/Ohio intersection is reinstated, the entire "Lower Northside" will become the most desirable neighborhood in the city.

1)Oakland
2) Shadyside

"No beer. Mountain Dew or crab juice."

"BLAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!

..... I'll take the crab juice."

1) South Side
15) Friendship

My quality of life went up exponentially when I moved from Lawrenceville to Friendship.

I love my house and I love Brookline, but part of me will always miss living in Friendship, partially for sentimental reasons, mostly because it's about as beautiful and convenient and vibrant as a neighborhood can be.

My car was broken into when I lived in Friendship-technically-Bloomfield in 2010. It was broad daylight actually, but the car was unlocked so it was just a crime of opportunity, I had nothing in the car to steal.

Here are the winners from the round of 8 and matchups for the final 4. These will be voted on by the beauty of the neighborhood. However you want to describe beauty that is up to you.

5) Beechview vs 12) Central Northside

2) Shadyside vs 15) Friendship

Voting will be until sunday night and my picks are in bold.

5) Beechview vs 12) Central Northside

Beechview has a lot going for it, but beauty isn't one of them. Especially compared to the Central Northside.

2) Shadyside vs 15) Friendship

Shadyside feels sterile and overly manicured for the most part.
