I'm moving back to Pennsylvania after living in Georgia for three years and I'm not familiar with the Pittsburgh area. I was just offered a job in Canonsburg and was wondering if anyone could offer me a little help with neighborhoods to avoid or apartment complexes to avoid. I have a feeling because I am moving with a dog and because I'm moving last minute, living in Canonsburg is out of the question. But I've been looking at apartments in Carnegie, Mt. Lebanon, Oakdale and other areas south of Pittsburgh. I'm a 26 year old female that will be moving to Pittsburgh alone and I'd rather not find myself in an apartment in the wrong part of town. Thanks in advance for any help!

Look in north stabane, real nice area next to canonsburg. I would avoid canonsburg and carnegie if it was me. Bridgeville is a nice area, so is cecil, some parts of washington pa but some parts are bad.

When i said to avoid canonsburg i ment downtown canonsburg. The outer areas are nice, as for carnegie, avoid most of it.

Sorry

I've heard that Carnegie, or at least parts of it, are just fine. I believe the realtor I used to buy my house lives there. Other forum members can give you specifics.

What makes you say that? It may be a mostly working class community but you rarely hear of anything bad happening there often.

When i lived in canonsburg there was an increase in drug activity, high amount of traffic for a small town. The traffic has most likely gotton worse with the increase of shale workers. I had never said it was a high crime area, just what i saw when i lived there.

Now my office is in down town carnegie. The bad areas keep expanding. There are visable drug addics in the streets in town, major crime around the towers, the police turn a blind eye to the drunks and panhandlers. I think with it being close to both 79 and the parkway it draws alot of petty crimes.

I dont want to **** anyone off, there are better areas for a single lady to live then those areas.

There are also nice areas of mckeesport, but as a whole it is not a nice area. I am not saying carnegie is like mckeesport, but it is also not an area that i could recommend to a single lady.

If she would have listed a neighborhood i could give a better answer, but as a general area carnegie is iffy compared to other areas around it.

In general Carnegie has become a bit rough in recent years. At least the parts of town that seem to
have a lot of rental property. Mount Lebanon or Bridgeville seem like viable options. As is Robinson
now that the long-missing I-79/Parkway West connection has been built.
