But you should not have to pay some outrageous toll because of mismanagement by bureaucrats and bad politicians.

Nope, nothing's changed at all here. There's still a curve.

And how much more are we paying for that curve? How much are we paying for that curve which is a result of mismanagement? How much are we paying for that curve which is a result of incompetent politicians?

You get the government you elect. Beyond your experience as a transportation engineer, which has to this point gone unacknowledged, please explain why this $20 toll is per se unreasonable. The New Jersey turnpike is more expensive, at 11.7 cents per mile (turnpike is 11.4, 8.2 cents for EZ Pass). How does this rate of tolling demonstrate obvious mismanagement? The highway is 70 years old and these older four lane sections were completed prior to World War II. Maintenance is expensive and we're subsidizing transportation throughout the state with those funds ($4.7 billion).

Whatever the cost is to reconstruct the highway from the ground up, add two lanes, widen the interior shoulders and replace the overpass, apparently.

Within the next 10 years, the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be a modern six-lane highway across the entire Commonwealth with the exception of 38 miles between Breezewood and the Blue Mountain Tunnel, and those who ***** about how "narrow" and "outdated" Pennsylvania's highways are will be less credible than before.

Tax everyone who owns a car to hell and force everyone to live on top of one another a la Mega-City One.

Just go to Ohio. It does not cost $20 for a car to drive from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh on a road. If it does that is pure mismanagement. Maybe the reason the maintenance is so "expensive" is due to government waste. I hate to tell you but the proof of government waste is everywhere. You must be a government employee or a politician?!?

The cost is much higher than it should be because government is involved.

You are right. It does not cost $20 to drive from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh in Ohio.

If you hate paying the fee... don't use the road!
Ranting here does absolutely nothing....

Thanks, but I work in the private sector. Forgive me for not seeing this "proof of government waste" everywhere as you do? I agree that Ohio will not charge me $20 to drive from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh. But that'd be some crazy sh*t if they did.
