The worst I've ever had is probably Maximum Flavor on South Craig. I do find it delightful that they have literally (and I mean literally) every permutation and combination of fried appetizer platters priced and listed on the wall. Antoon's in South Oakland is pretty awful as well.

I don't know if it's been mentioned in this thread, but Italian Village in Squirrel Hill makes an NY style pie that fares well even by East Coast standards. Very under-appreciated place that I only discovered after moving away.

Tied with Slice on Broadway as my favorite pizza in Pittsburgh, however they are at complete opposite ends of the pizza spectrum.

We liked A Slice on Broadway. It's kinda like eating at somebody's house upstairs, there.

Italian Village is my favorite NYC style in Pittsburgh. They're a local chain, so there are branches Downtown, at Waterworks and a couple other places further out, too.

The worst pizza I have ever had, hands down and bar none, was not in Pittsburgh but in Northeast PA. There's this awful travesty called 'Old Forge Style' pizza that is like the worst elementary school cafeteria white bread, velveeta slices and ketchup awfulness but apparently it's a delicacy in those parts. My NEPA friend was all excited to have all of us try it when we visited and we were all like, what the hell is this nonsense?!

Sounds like Revello's. Arcaro & Gennell, which uses a cheddar blend and real tomato sauce, is much better. Regardless, it's definitely a very polarizing variety of pizza. I like Old Forge every now and again, but pan-fried Sicilian is where it's at.

As with many things, pizza is what you grew up on. If one didn't grow up with Beto's, like you and I haven't, then yeah, it's an abomination to the term "pizza". It would be laughed out of town where I grew up. But it has a following here, so let them enjoy. We're close to Stuebenville and Beto's is pretty much "Ohio Valley Style".

I'm just happy to have a couple of places I do like near me. Wasn't the case when I first moved here, nor did I have great options when living in Alexandria, VA or down the road from King of Prussia. So life could be much worse.
