About 15 minutes after I posted that, I went into a training workshop where we were practicing group editing a wiki and the subject of the practice wiki was ice cream. I added a link to Mercurio's at the same time as a colleague added a comment about Mercurio's. And then the whole group of us spent 5 minutes talking about how great it is.

Mercurio's has so far been the most disappointing pizza I've had. I was expecting it to be really good to great and it was barely enjoyable. It's like they made a really nice pizza but used flavorless ingredients. For comparison, I liked Piccolo Forno, Dinette, and Proper a lot more.

Jet's Pizza in Dormont is now open! If nothing else, glad that building is remodeled, looking great, and back in business (heck, I recall back in 1999, there was still an abandoned Foto Hut booth in that area, so we've come a long way).

What is your favorite pizza place in Pittsburgh? Dinette in East Liberty
What is your usual/favorite thing(s) they make? All of it...in my mouth..now.
How do they score on the affordability factor? They aren't cheap
Dine in, carry out or delivery? Dine in.

White pizza can be great. I very rarely eat it, but I love ricotta on any variety of pizza. Does anyone in the area have white pizza as their signature? Like, 'don't even bother going to _____ unless you get their white pizza'.

I have friends that just moved here from Venice, and they say hands down the most authentic Pittsburgh Italian pie is at Il Pizzaiolo in Market Square.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Having been to Italy 8 times myself I would tend to agree.

That being said, not all 'Murricans like the Italian version and prefer things like crust stuffed with steak, french fries, and bacon...

There's a place for both. I like the white (garlic sauce) at Pizza A'Badamo for a slice or two. But I haven't had a good ricotta/tomato pizza around here that I'd go back for (excepting upscale places like Piccolo Forno or Il Piz). The "red and white" was a staple food when I used to work near The Bronx.

If there's anything I've learned as a Pittsburgher it's that people from New York will continuously tell me that I've never actually eaten good pizza.

Goes for most people that have moved here from somewhere else. They always say theirs is better. Anybody that can't find pizza to their liking in and around da 'burgh doesn't venture out much.

Tried Anthony's Coal Fired and liked it. They call it "well done" but I didn't find it well done.
