Out of curiosity do people tip on top of the Uber and Lyft charge? I haven't used either yet but generally tip cabs.

No, while I'm sure they all don't, drivers are supposed to refuse any tip.

You can add money to the fare for the tip on Sidecar (not yet in Pittsburgh). I believe I gave a cash tip to my Lyft driver in Chicago. Excellent service!

That's totally understandable, but there's been a few times in the pre-Lyft/Uber days when I gladly would have paid $30 for Yellow Cab to simply show up.

I agree, it still beats YC by a country mile.... I understood the Surge pricing, and still gladly paid 33$ to go from the SSW to Shadyside at 1am two Saturdays ago. I tend to lean more Uber than Lyft at this point.

With Uber I understand you're NOT supposed to Tip, and Drivers are supposed to refuse Tipping... I did offer a couple times to see if I could catch a driver in the act, and the 2 of them graciously declined.

Do Lyft do surge pricing? I've only used Uber so far, but am starting to see more pink mo's around town so maybe I should test them out?

Why not use whoevers is closer, quicker, and can quote a cheaper price...I dont know if lyft does Surge or if they can Quote you a price before hand.... I only perfer Uber because its what I use when I was on the East Coast in Philly and NYC... So i stayed loyal to them here in the Burgh. I may try Lyft out @ some point..

Would you have snitched on them, if they had instead graciously accepted the gratuity?

$33!? A jitney would have cost you $15, and would have been there in 5-10 minutes tops.
