With the ongoing explosion of hotel development in this town, I smiled when I read the plans for the 15 story hotel planned near the Duquesne Incline. The plans sound just like what is needed in this town of dreadful riverfront residential options. 'Great views from each room with floor to ceiling windows, large rooftop deck overlooking the golden triangle and river, public access to the riverfront trail'
I just moved a friend from Pittsburgh down to Cincinnati and he choose a beautiful high rise riverfront condo complete with his own spacious deck and and floor to ceiling windows. I believe it 25 floors and has one heck of a swimming pool outside and is on a major riverfront trail. I won't even mention the insanely hot residential offerings in downtown Miami by Related Group that I toured last month. http://relatedgroup.com/home.html
But as much as we hear and see about downtown Pittsburgh's residential boom, it would be nice to see some riverfront options taking advantage of the unique river and urban views and direct access to the recreational trails and water. Anyone say the North Shore ?
Oh sorry, already developed with what I would call mundane corporate building common to the suburbs. One can dream. Next up, 'the last frontier' The Strip District !

I'm not too thrilled with residential units as they are about as dead in outside activity as a corporate headquarters. I prefer restaurants etc. That'll attract people.

Our riverfront property is a bit limited as most is lined with either a highway or railroad. Northshore & Strip being the exceptions near downtown.

Lively residential many times contains restaurants, retail, grocery, but then again you have to have mass in order to justify such development and Pittsburgh probably still lacks such.

Does 151 Firstside and the Encore on 7th not count to you, or how about Riverside Mews in the southside, Cork factory in Strip, Washingtons Landing, Heinz lofts and Morgan at North Shore? It's not like you couldn't live in an upscale place on the river now if you wanted to.

I agree that this city could use some more riverfront residential. Luckily there are still countless old abandoned industrial lots left to develop on. Both the Strip District and Hazelwood already have huge plans in the works that will create hundreds of new riverside units. In the Southside the Works is still being built out, and there are a few sizeable projects coming soon that will either be riverfront or within a block of it.

I'm pretty sure we are moving in the right direction, its just maybe not as fast as some of us had hoped.

The only real riverfront one of those is Washington's Landing, the others have obstruction.

Sadly there aren't many riverfront places in our region and never will be.

Even if they build it, I wouldn't be excited about living right next to railroad tracks.

There is some residential housing nest to the river in Fox Chapel that don't have railroad tracks between the buildings and the water. It's small single family homes mixed with townhouses though. Only a small number of them actually have views of the river.
