While PGH isn't as strongly linked to the Jersey Shore as the Greater Philly and NYC regions, over the years, I've met a number of Pittsburghers who make the trek at least once a year. For those of you who do venture down the Shore, where do you go and why? I've never met any Pittsburghers in my neck of the barrier islands (Margate/Longport, which makes sense since there aren't any hotels), but I do know Wildwood, Cape May, etc., are fairly popular among Western PAers.

We are Rehoboth/Bethany people. Never went to the Jersey Shore.

We only know one family who is, and they go to Avalon.

Rehoboth is a great area. It's a hike from Philly, but driving out of PGH, it's only slightly further than the South Jersey shore points.

OBX family here, but I second the Avalon location for those I know who go to the Jersey Shore.

It seems like people who go to the shore have their regular places - I know a few Pittsburghers who regularly go to VA beach, Myrtle or NC.

I have two sets of friends who make annual trips to Stone Harbor and another family who goes to Cape May. We are lucky in that my grandmother (who was from Philly) got a place on Long Beach Island, a barrier island, in the 40s. When I was younger, there was less developed space between towns. Now it's one long strip of commerce and houses. I haven't met too many Pittsburghers there.

LBI used to be pretty popular with Philadelphians as well, though for whatever reason (very likely the construction of the Atlantic City Expressway), a lot fewer go there these days. My great-great-aunt still has a place in Beach Haven.

Pittsburghers seem very disproportionately represented at every major east coast beach from NJ to FL.

We love our sand & surf.

I favor OC MD locally, but I much prefer W Coast beaches over anything in the East, including FL.

From my findings most Pittsburghers are big OCMD and VA Beach goers. I have met several people at OCMD from the Burgh.

I think it depends on where in Pittsburgh you are from. Most of my friends head to Hilton Head Island. Usually in Sea Pines. Some go to the Outer Banks. If they go to the Jersey Shore it is usually Avalon or Stone Harbor.

Personally, I prefer Cape Cod or Rehobeth.

Completely unscientific, but I know many more people who go to Rehoboth, Bethany, Outer Banks of North Carolina, Myrtle Beach, and Hilton Head than go to New Jersey. Don't know why that is.
