Just an FYI from where I have gathered all of my experiences from in USC

I have gone to numerous sporting events. I also belong to the upper saint Clair rec center and pool. I have attended many of my daughters school functions. I also belong to an Indian Princess tribe with my daughter which is made up of a group of dads that range from doctors, business owners, lawyers, accountants, school teachers and unemployed. I also help out at a local park with family game night where we organize games for kids to play on Tuesdays. I have taken my daughter to birthday parties for school friends some at mansions, some at normal homes. We also typically attend any community functions (school fairs, community day etc)

I care where the OP decides to live. I hope she choses USC.
You obviously are very biased against USC and it shows with every additional comment you make. I see you jump in with the snobby stereotype every chance you get.

Again, please enlighten us as to when you had first hand experience. I listed mine above.

I should clarify that I don't like my in-laws. They are everything sskink says about USC snobs. I know better than their neighbors because they say things out loud to me that I would hope they would never say out loud among residents who are mere acquaintances. What sskink senses as below the surface is much more aggressive than the subtleness he describes. And I've spent significant time with their USC circle at various weddings, parties, picnics, ceremonies, sporting events, etc., to know all of their friends are likeminded racist snobs. I have been downright shocked by the things I've heard people say. I'm sure you, sskink and others from USC aren't like that, but I've encountered more people like that at functions attended by USC residents to feel confident in sharing my opinion. I was going to keep my mouth shut. I initially just said both areas are fine, let yourself decide by what house you love. When sskink brought it up, I felt I should speak up.

We agree! I still think anyone could be happy with the USC housing and neighborhood layouts because it's so close to Mt. Lebo that it could be considered sort of a suburb for the Mt. Lebo's business district from an everyday use sense. What's missing is the community feel she hopes to find. She won't get that in Peters either though. I suspect her need for a community feel and community pride will be the thing she'll have to give up on her list of requirements since bus service is important. I totally understand the importance of having bus service. It's one of the main points I bring up for parents considering Mt. Lebo, but many SAHMs drawn to Mt. Lebo don't mind the lack of bus service because the walkability is more important for them.

Let me focus a little more on Mount Lebanon with this post. I take it the bus issue has been raised many times. Why is it that city refuses to do this? Is there any hope that the city will cave in on this issue in the future, or are they set in their way?

Maybe it's just where I am from, but I have tough time believing that in a city with a population of 31,000, that all schools are in a walkable distance? I may have had some "sticker shock" when I was told this, and probably a lot of parents just find that one or two that carpool a few kids in the neighborhood. That may be fine once I am settled, but as the new person on the block, it may be a little more difficult.

Pennsylvania has a retrograde state law, which requires any district that provides for transportation of students to public school to also bus students to private schools within a reasonable distance. The only way a district can get away with not providing this busing for the private schools is to eliminate it for public schools as well. Which is what Mount Lebanon does.

I know there are many elementary schools in Lebo and they should all be in walking distance. I am not sure how many middle schools they have though. The High School is pretty centrally located and most if not all streets in Lebo have sidewalks so in theory it is walkable. I imagine if you are on the extremes of the district it might be a tough walk, especially in the winter.

Mt lebo has as far as i know been a walking district, i dont see them changing any time soon. I dont think the tax payers would go for it. If you live on the out skirts of mt lebo the walk could be long.

You can eat there all you want. Both my wife and I have had food poisoning in Washington County and we haven't been around for eternity (although sometimes our marriage seems like it).

I'll just say I was a certified safe food handler in Allegheny County for a number of years. I know what to look for. And I've eaten plenty of sketchy street food in foreign countries with flies buzzing all around so I wouldn't consider myself "unreasonably paranoid".

I'll skip the details here, but will be happy to share them with you privately if you think you won't get queasy hearing about them.

Food poisoning can certainly happen anywhere. We recently ate at the Union Grill in Washington and it was great.

So you're limited to only eating in Allegheny County? What do you do when you visit other cities, towns, states? Do you take food with you?

The elementary schools are eveywhere, the middle school is on 19 in the center of town. I know people who had an hour plus walk each way to high school. Mount lebanon lets students drive to high school as upper st clair does not.
