I had some acquaintances who moved to Brooklyn a few years ago. They could not wait, could not wait, to leave pedestrian and provincial Pittsburgh. Now all they post on Facebook is how dirty, smelly, rude, expensive, uncaring, hard-to-get-around New York is. I think one of the funniest posts I saw form one of them was, "Doesn't anybody bathe on this subway?" All they do is kvetch about how hard life is there.

Knew a girl who's dream was to move there, finally able to....came back to Pgh in less than 2 years. The smell of hot garbage was too much for her so she returned to the fresh air of Pittsburgh....

Do you think that Outlander (OP) will ever come back to this thread? Pittsburgh isn't perfect and it isn't for everyone, but I am curious if he/she is going to stick around for a while or leave; just nebby, I guess, lol.

I could be wrong, but it seems like people often think that moving to a new or cooler area will help solve their problems or make them more interesting. Coincidentally, these areas tend to be those where the innovative, cool, authentic has been overrun with the vapid, derivative and played out.

Some people think problems only exist where they live only to find out the phrase "the grass isn't always greener on the other side" to be completely true.

Just being a little nebby too, but how do they feel about pedestrian and provincial Pittsburgh now?

Right. Or, "wherever you go, there you are."

Sometimes a change of place is just what's needed. Certainly true for me. Sometimes people discover that "you don't know what you've got till it's gone." Think of the Prodigal Son.
