If one doesn't try to hurt, rob, etc..., someone with a gun then there isn't a need for them to use it.

While imo, open carry is a bit over the top and prefer cc, there's absolutely no reason not to carry a gun. Its a crazy world.

I am. Or rather that they'll decide not to look or to drive without due concern for the well being of others. There's plenty of posts about this in the Pittsburgh forum.

good point deserves a response. the reason cops open carry is bek it prevents people from doing stupid things. like dying. occasionally this fails and somebody tries to jump on an armed man anyway and dies.
we get plenty of press when it happens i am sorry for the deaths but nobody ever asks the question, , what possessed you to jump on an armed man? instead its--- he shot an unarmed man.

Is this some sort of stream of consciousness poetry?

Agreed. Another reason I prefer cc, but to each their own.

I never got this argument. There are plenty of competitive shooting sports and organizations around the entire planet that have nothing to with killing who would disagree with you. I have shot competitively a few times and it's a lot of fun. I have belonged to a gun club that regularly donates to charity. Firearms can absolutely be fun and interesting hobby and should not be viewed as something that "only exist for killing".

To be fair, many rifles/shotguns are mostly meant for hunting. I'm not sure I would feel all that threatened if I saw someone carrying a rifle in an appropriate place for hunting (provided I wasn't in brush without wearing an orange jacket).

Handguns though, don't really have much reason to exist besides to kill someone. Yes, you can target shoot, to make sure when you do kill someone, you can do so quickly and accurately. And you can threaten to kill someone with one and not actually go through with it. But the purpose of handguns is to kill people. If you wear one in public, you want to advertise you're not afraid to kill if provoked.

And just so no one says I have a double standard here - if I saw someone outside of a ren fair/SCA meeting wearing a sword in public, I'd be just about as frightened. Possibly a bit less so because you can outrun someone with a sword, but still.

You're not competitive shooting if you're walking around open carrying in public.
