The Pittsburgh area is growing, and a lot of businesses want to be closer to their employees and customers and most live in the suburbs. Not everyone wants to live in town, not everyone can afford to live in town either.

Butler County has a lot going for it, I hope the new business park is a success.

And another way to look at it is this...Allegheny County loses to Butler County again. Washington and Butler are stealing businesses away from Allegheny. South Pointe is fueling a ton of growth in Washington County.

How are Washington and Butler "stealing" anything?

Those counties are in need of jobs and development, just like Allegheny, and have a lot to offer as well. They offer a different lifestyle and business environment, different from that of Pittsburgh, and something that both the employees and the businesses find attractive. In the case of Washington, they are an epicenter of the growing natural gas industry- an industry that City of Pittsburgh elected officials have condemned for their fracking, the city has already said they don't care to have fracking around- it isn't surprising when the jobs appear elsewhere in the region.

Butler has the advantage of better highway transportation on the interstates which is pretty good for the produce business that is moving out there.

Hey, maybe you can talk Shell into building that cracker plant down on 2nd Avenue in Hazelwood, instead of out in Monaca?

The City of Pittsburgh doesn't care for fracking.

Besides, the city's plan for Hazelwood redevelopment is residential and commercial-not industrial- bike trails, boutiques and places for the new yuppie residents to buy lattes.

He has a point. Butler County got the new GE facility, not Allegheny County. Why?

Also, Washington County is a good location due to the airport. Some big companies need an airport.

Findlay Township is where GE wants to build. That's in Allegheny County.

methinks ditchdigger was posting with a fair degree or sarcasm. And cracking isn't fracking?

Bring on the new Hazelwood, I say. SCR, I'll buy you a cappuccino while you get a parking ticket

Moi?

Seriously though, a great big crack plant would fit right in with Hazelwood's existing dealer network. Or am I confused?
