Generation Xers are 38. Not too many of us have 30 year old kids, I hope...

OK, time to get flamed. I looked closely at that picture of Lawrenceville, and could see only two black people in the entire crowd. It may be hip, but it's not diverse, at least according to that picture.

The definition of Gen X varies, but the cutoff is anywhere from 1980 to 1984, meaning the youngest are in their early-to-mid 30s now.

The oldest were born somewhere between 1961 and 1965. Under the broader definition, you could thus have the oldest Xers (now 54) with 30 year old kids. But still, it's mostly late Boomers who have millennials. Xers have kids still in school.

Lawrenceville was one of those neighborhoods black people simply didn't go to as recently as the 1990s. Diversity is probably down a bit compared to 2010, as gentrification has pushed out some low income black renters who had recently moved to Upper and Lower Lawrenceville. But it's still more diverse now than it has been historically.

Sorry. I always thought today's 40-somethings were considered to be part of Generation X. I guess today's 40-somethings are Baby Boomers. Thanks for the clarification.

Not too many 40-something year olds have 30 year old children either.

40-somethings can have 20-something children, though, and they are most certainly what I am talking about. I'm not talking about a 40-year-old having a 30-year-old. I'm talking about a 48-year-old enabling parent having a 26-year-old financially-inept child.

Not too many college-educated professionals able to financially support adult children had their kids at 22 even back in the late 1980s, let alone today.
