My wife and I will be moving to the area this summer and are trying to figure out where to live. We are moving from Durham, NC and are used to being around a lot of other young professionals. I'm currently trying to balance proximity to Pittsburgh and some of its amenities and work in Wheeling. Finding housing looks like it will prove challenging as I'd like to find something relatively update, but we have two dogs and few places seem to accept pets. I've looked around Canonsburg, however the few apartments I've been able to find (and surrounding town-homes) have been astronomically expensive.

Martins Ferry is a safe , smaller city that is none too expensive adjacent to Wheeling. Very low crime rate over there.

There are REALLY, REALLY nice parts of washington pa, but there is still alot of bad. Maybe look in the mcdonald area or off rt18. A little farther south from canonsburgh is bridgeville.

McDonald and even Bridgeville are long drives for a commute to Wheeling. Bridgeville is 35-40 minutes from Wheeling, McDonald is almost an hour.
Depends I guess on the OP's toleration for a long daily commute as to whether those areas are worth serious consideration.

I'd go with somewhere in between Washington and Wheeling. IDK the names of any of those communities though except for West Alex which is practically in WV. Whatever you do I suggest to steer clear of anywhere in the Steubenville OH area. You will be depressed after living there only a few months.

Steubenville is a bit far for a daily commute to Wheeling, but it is the home of the King of Cool, Dean Martin.

Wheeling is way cheaper than Pittsburgh. If marketing was done correctly, Wheeling would be the new hot suburb of Pittsburgh.

He wants a place that is closer to Pittsburgh. He wants to live somewhere fairly close to Wheeling, but close enough to Pittsburgh that he can easily come up and enjoy it's offerings without having to drive an hour to get there. That's why Washington was brought up.
