I really want a community with pretty big homes I need at least 5 bedrooms and my budget would be 900K max. Lots of kids around is important , where I am now we don't see any children at all. Maybe it's just kids don't play outside anymore, but my kids like too. We are planning on taking a visit for a few days soon. I would like to have my daughter start high school in our new neighborhood. My son will be in his senior year at Chaminade so he will have to finish there.

All my kids want is to walk to a store to get a slice of pizza, ride their bikes and see other kids ! That's the kind of neighborhood I'm looking for with the best schools. My kids all go to catholic school now. I would look at both catholic and public schools. Anyone have any info on the catholic schools in cranberry?!
You will probably be shocked with the home you can get with a budget of $900K. Do you want to live in a suburban development with any store you would want nearby via car? Or do you prefer to live in an older style neighborhood/town where the kids could easily walk or ride their bikes to one of the local pizza shops? I think that Cranberry is a better fit for the former, but it will be difficult for riding bikes to the local shops in that area, imo.

Is this the Target?

Looks quaint and walkable to me for sure.

Sorry, but I don't see any pizza places that are walkable from any developments I can see on Google Maps, that don't require walking along the side of a road (no sidewalk).

While I don't want to see this thread (d)evolve into a suburban vs. city diatribe I do have to admit for as many positive qualities as Cranberry Township has it has been run by idiotic officials for decades who SHOULD have required developers to place sidewalks in ALL new developments. I mean in this aforementioned Google Street View image the sidewalk leading into the entrance driveway to the Target power center just ends abruptly, forcing anyone who wants to walk there to walk ON the road. There's absolutely NO sidewalk at all and just a narrow shoulder on the eastbound side of Route 228. Doesn't sound very "family-friendly" to me.

If the ability to walk to a Target without ever leaving a sidewalk is your barometer for family-friendliness... well then alright.

The OP has a large family and would like her kids to be able to walk to the store (specifically a pizza place) and ride their bikes safely. Those sound like a couple family friendly activities to me, specifically for a bunch of kids who don't yet drive. For other folks, family friendly might mean something else, like inviting friends over to play video games. Different strokes for different folks.

It's much safer to ride bikes around Cranberry than it is in the city.

As for pizza specifically, no, there are no sidewalk-only-walkable pizza places from any Cranberry neighborhoods that I'm aware of, but you could certainly walk to Champ's pizza from a number of neighborhoods near/along Haine School Road with absolutely no issue. (source: all of the people I see walking/biking along Haine School Road)

I never mentioned the city. If Princessix wants a big home with lower taxes, than a city neighborhood is probably not going to work.

Wants

- Large home (5+ bedrooms)
- Lots of kids around
- Kids want to ride bikes (beyond their own street)
- Kids want to walk to the store for pizza
- Wants a good school district (or perhaps a catholic school)
- Wants the mall or other shopping to be closer than a 30 minute drive.

She mentioned Cranberry specifically, but Cranberry might not be the best fit for all of these preferences. It meets most of those needs, but is not very walkable.

Mt Lebanon is an option, but the real estate taxes are higher.

Perhaps Fox Chapel.

Where else?

I don't think she will find all of these things in one place.
