I'm Moving to Homewood......
Next week I'm moving to Homewood...I havn't been reading very good things on here about the area....I'm excited to move and diversity is something I cling to...Now I'll say this, i'm not invisible and I know the crime rate for that community is not good but I'm not gonna be out running in the streets at night...I've been in the area daytime and at night. I haven't been shot at or witness any shootings yet... Drug Dealers are everywhere regardless of where you go. Thats not what bothers me UNLESS they push there **** on me..Its violent crimes that are kind of a touchy spot....Do innocent random people get shot in this neighborhood or is it the people involved in criminal activity? Not that it matters but I'm a white girl moving in with a black family that was raised in homewood and also have other family living in the neighborhood. I have some fear about moving but it's a chance for me to live in the city and work there till I get my own spot....Just asking everyone else what they think..........Thanks

Please find another place to live
Not to be negative, but innocent people can and do get shot in broad daylight in bad neighborhoods everywhere, every single day. Kids out playing get shot. It happens. That even happens in hoods that aren't so bad. Why Homewood? How about Friendship or Highland Park? They're a stone's throw from Homewood, and you could probably rent yourself a small studio for next to nothing and be a whole lot safer.

^for that matter you could try Regent Square, it's right by Homewood and it's a lot safer. I think innocent people do get shot there, I've read a lot of things in the paper/seen a lot of things on the news about people getting shot on the street, just because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Try it out; see how you like it. My aunt lived in Homewood for 6 years. Rented a large, nice house that wasn't too much to look at from the outside, but inside was pretty nice. She worked in Shadyside, drove a BMW...oh and she never got shot.

I have no experience with the neighborhood on a personal level, but from what I've been able to gather from the news, it seems as though most, if not all of the violent crimes occurring in Homewood are against persons involved, not innocent people minding their own business. This goes for all the bad neighborhoods in the 'burgh.

I agree with that to the largest percentage of crimes, but just over a month ago a young man was waiting for the bus along the East Bustway and some kids tried to rob him and he fought back and was shot dead.
I live in the aforementioned Point Breeze/Regent Square area. It's lovely and rated as Pittsburghs hottest growing area in the city. However, come to the top of our lovely three story home, and we have an excellent view of Homewood, and I regularly hear gunfire on a weekly basis. I'm sure you found a good price on rent, but I'm sure you could do just as good and be in a lot safer area.

The news? I have a hard time beleiveing that the only thing that goes on in homewood is bad stuff. Doesn't the media do a good job of having the public beleive what they want them to beleive? I know it's a bad neighborhood but, Isn't this place community oriented? What are some of the good things that happen?

A friend of mine was shot as she got off a bus a couple months ago, at 6 p.m. with lots of people on the street. The shooter was aiming at another target but missed and hit her instead. She was minding her own business. This happens to people all the time, in all kinds of neighborhoods. And yes, crimes do occur against people involved, of course, but let's not be naive.

I've had family and friends who have lived in Regent Square (across from Frick Park) and some pretty weird stuff happens there too. Wasn't there an issue several years ago with joggers getting attacked and/or killed in the park? A couple years before that, I friend of mine had a wild cat that got loose in the park (what a fiasco that was). There's also several drug dealers that live in Regent Square and Edgewood (at least they did in the early 2000s...keep in mind I haven't lived here in a while...oh, not that I do drugs, but word goes around).
