I've been to Ritters in the middle of the night and never felt unsafe. The crowd can be a little eclectic, sure, but not unsafe. I think this is another one of those, "Someone told me anything remotely close to East Liberty is dangerous because I heard it on the news and my friend said it, so that's why." scenarios...

I think ive eaten there - receipts I've found in my pocket suggest I've been there a couple of times, I can neither confirm or deny such nor can I give any reviews of the food.

Ritters, in retrospect, always SOUNDED like a good idea at 1AM or later, when you are starving and need to calm down, or sober up. It was never a clean looking place, but had character. When you're young and on have no concept of mortality or an end to the fun, it was that 'character' that was the attraction.

The table juke boxes were cool, though - stuff I even liked.

Wendy's, now open all the time, could duplicate that experience for the young, late night crowd, I guess. They have decent food.

Did they ever get younger waitresses? Maybe they just don't want to work late.

No, it's not closed. It's still 24 hours except for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, when they close at 10 pm.

Amen!

Maybe we'll finally get a 24 hour dinner in this town that doesn't suck and isn't an Eat 'n Park.

The writer seems to revel in pessimism. Is he even FROM here (location being "manhattan").

Ah - i was going to ask, jimbo, but it just hit me - the significance of your last sentence. NYWriter - r u in Armstrong County periodically?
