Danielle,
We were in the same boat last summer, we found a rental on Craig's list, a house w/ yard in Swisshelm Park (just below Frick Park)--it's a beautiful, safe, kid-friendly area. It was nerve-racking (and we ended up paying about $300/month more than we wanted for the place) but we were coming from the same place (2 school age girls, wanted a neighborhood, needed a quick commute to Oakland). I'd recommend keeping an eye on Craig's list, you may get lucky. Our rental will also probably be available again when we move in August (we're hoping to buy), but that may be too late for you ;-)

Bridgeville
Jefferson Hills
Moon Twp
Cranberry Twp
Jeanette
Allison Park

Oh, and are these close UPMC (the Magee Center)?

Thanks for any info!

Danielle,

I would like to suggest Bridgeville. I know that area is only 15 minutes from town with no traffic. The school district is Chartiers Valley and is highly rated. With traffic you are talking 30-40 minutes to Oakland during rush-hour.

Jeanette is DEFINITELY too far East. Jefferson Hills, Moon Township, and Cranberry will be a long commute. Allison Park could be tough as well. Of the list, I would recommend Bridgeville.

Have you thought of other communities? You might check by school districts and availablity of rental property as well.

Squirrel Hill would be my first choice also.

And you might want to remember that the plural of "area" is "areas" not the possessive "area's" you've used.

About S.H., the area's greatest asset is its diversity.
