I did a search but didn't find the info that I was looking for. I am trying to narrow some areas down that I can research. What are some decent and safe suburbs where you can get or have pretty much that you need? In other words, where you don't have to leave for shopping, restaurants, dinners, etc. My price point to purchase a single home is 70K +/-. I don't have the need to go into the city most of the time. I don't want to live in the sticks either. Schools don't matter. Many of you have given some good advice on here so far. This area is new to me and I don't know too much yet.

For 70k, you can live in Penn Hills, which is pretty self sufficient as far as food shopping and restaurants, you'd be pretty close to shopping on Business 22.

Much appreciated. I did a quick search and found homes that meet my price.

Bridgeville, Carnegie, Greentree, west mifflin. There are a lot of them. With Penn hills you have to research the area, it is huge there fore there are a lot of good areas, but also some bad.

I wouldn't buy in Penn Hills though. The area is in major decline. Depressed property values in part due to progressing white flight. Renting there would be perfectly fine, but you wouldn't be able to get your money back if you decide to sell later and it will likely take years to sell.

I'd say Ross would be an excellent starting point, all things considered. But, it is a pretty urban 'suburb'(not that that is a negative attribute), possibly more than to your liking. But for under $70k? That might be tough.

Have you thought about western Westmoreland County?

jeannette would be my favorite in that price range. Underrated town (selfies with corpses notwithstanding) a lot of individually owned restaurants/bars/market/shops in jeannette, and all the chain everythings just 3 miles away on route 30.

Bellevue and Avalon along along the Ohio River are pretty nice and have housing in that price range. Bellevue has a vibrant business district. Along the Allegheny River, Blawnox, Millvale, Sharpsburg, and Etna might fit the bill. Along the Monongahela River, just about any town outside of Pittsburgh has houses in that range.
