Anyone have any idea what is being built on Banksville Rd (route 19) next to the hotel and in front of the Pittsburgh Barbeque Company? Just curious.

I believe many many years ago (pre-Parkway West) Banksville Rd connected with Route 51 which went into the West End and onto the bridge. So using their reasoning, it used to be connected, therefore it's part of the West End.

I just noticed that the brick building that used to be City Oven/Azzeria was torn down. I thought it had some sort of historical significance as coal mine entrance (don't know where I got that) but progress is progress.

It was a coal mine entrance, but I wouldn't say that gives it any particular historical significance.

The building wasn't a capital-H historical landmark, but it was a noteworthy marker of the historic industry of the area that's now gone.
