Default Relocating to Pittsburgh

We are being relocated to Pittsburgh. I have lived in the Midwest for over 20 years all of my adult life. Our children ages range from 7 to 15. I live in Indiana in a community with 4 star schools, (highest ranking) lots of diversity as far as race, economic -status, education levels, and family friendly and lots extracurricular activity, a suburb with city feel.
I would like to live in an area with the same qualities. Can anyone tell me what would be the best places in the Pittsburgh area to find the above mention qualities? I have been doing some research but would like to hear what the peopel say who live in PA. I have also read previous threads but no details on the above qualities.

Mount lebanon comes the closest I think. You will be hard pressed to find ethnic diversity in any suburb here though.

I agree about Mt. Lebanon, particularly when it comes to schools (assuming you mean public).

But another possibility might be Squirrel Hill and the parts of Regent Square in Pittsburgh which feed into the Squirrel Hill public schools. I usually describe those areas as "semi-urban": people have houses with yards (albeit small yards by suburban standards), but you can walk to parks, restaurants, and so on. Those areas are pretty diverse by Pittsburgh standards, and the public schools are among the best in the Pittsburgh School District, although perhaps not as good as some of the suburban schools.

That's completely wrong.

The South Hills suburbs have a few good schools, but are the most non-diverse (racially, economiclly, educationally) suburbs in the region.

I would recommend looking at Sewickley, Monroeville, Plum, Murrysville, and perhaps certain communities in the North Hills School Districts like Fox Chapel, Shaler, North Allegheny. These schools are all pretty good, and will have varying levels of diversity. At worst, in each of these areas you will work and shop in somewhat diverse environments.

As a second tier, most of the suburbs along the mon and ohio rivers are diverse...but as a general rule of thumb, the schools are generally somewhat lacking.

PS

Default Pittsburgh

I lived Most of my years in Pittsburgh. Check out Robinson Twp., North Fayette, and Moon Twp. Areas. This is just west of the city. Airport access is right there. Great schools and College. The area is just newer and much safer. Just my thoughts. If you would like more info.. just email me direct. good luck
