Day 1 - Science Museum North Shore. Walk on the North Shore Park to the "steps". Take a quick change of clothes, and catch half of a Pirates game. Skip the Pirates game if the kids are fried. If you go and you can spend a few extra $$$, buy tickets in the Pirates Baseball Club. It's a very nice with larger and padded seats, private concourse, air conditioned, with nice areas to sit inside in very comfortable chairs. Plus incredible views of the game and downtown (remember this about the cost - no one would think about $65 in Toronto; and its a special occasion).

Day 2- Point State Park. Walk to the gateway station and take the T to Station Square. You can consider the synchronized fountain at Station Square, but I would probably just jump on the incline to Mount Washington. On your return trip, lunch or dinner in market Square.

Day 3 - Ducky tour or a ride on the gateway clipper. Any of the parks mentioned above for a picnic.

Special unexpected treat - around dusk, check out the fountain that goes under the convention center. Also, if you can time it right, Mt Washington at dusk is literally unforgettable.

I promise - the adults will have as much fun as the kids, and your friends get beautiful views of Pittsburgh.

Lunch at Church Brew Works. The food is a touch overpriced (hence a lunch recommendation rather than dinner) and the beer is just OK, but the setting is spectacular.

The kids would probably like the Good Ship Lollipop Gateway Clipper tour.
