By the way, regarding Bylsma....everybody forgets that Gonchar was out for a long time, and that coincided with the Penguins slide. Therrien was fired and Bylsma was hired pretty much exactly when Gonchar came back. I contend that Gonchar coming back was the real driving force in turning the ship around for the Pens in '05.

The Penguins did Michel Therrien dirty. I feel bad that he didn't get his name on the Stanley Cup. That's why I've become a quasi-Canadiens fan in the interim, because I want to see his name on the Cup. He deserves it after putting together a championship team with the Penguins and never getting credit for it. Dan Bylsma is to NHL coaches what Barry Switzer is to NFL coaches: Both were hired by the right team at the right time, and enjoyed the bounty that other great coaches left for them.

If you're going to bring the NFL into it, Tomlinson is also the Barry Switzer as that was really Cowher's team. Rather than the dictator/hard nosed attitude, Tomlin has the lack of disciple good old boy attitude that the Pens players embraced with Bylsma.

Therrien wouldn't have won the Cup with the Pens. He was a dictator, and not that they didn't need it but they wouldn't play for him. I'm a Therrien fan and would greatly like to see him win a Cup but that wasn't his time.

Tell that to Carmelo Anthony. Championships are a bonus. Money comes first to many/most.

So while you're on your City of Champions soapbox, ask Sid and Geno to take pay cuts so the Pens can get a better supporting cast.

Yup, you gotta pay talent to win. Quality players want paid and you can't blame them.

Sid has already given a hometown discount to get players signed. He could've gotten more $$$ if he'd have chosen to. Not all star players are Carmelo Anthony. I would have zero issue if they traded Malkin.

You're happy with watching games and say championships aren't important. Most disagree and want to win championships. Again, some have higher standards than others. Pens and Stillers fans have very high standards.

Never said championships aren't important. But they're not the only thing. And its silly to demand one every year, even for Yankee fans. To me, a great part of the fun is watching a championship team being built over a few seasons. The one redeeming quality of the latest NYY dynasty v. 80s Steinbrenner teams was the core four and a bunch of other guys they developed (Williams, Randolph, Girardi, et.al.) instead of just buying an all-star team. Having Reggie enshrined with a monument is embarrassing IMO. And many NYY fans agree.

Since you like to wager, I'll propose one. If Bucs make the WS, you disappear from C-D until either the Pens or Steelers make the Finals/SB. If they don't, I'll leave until such time the Bucs do make it. DEALIO?

It's not demanding one every year, but certainly more than one every 36, and having the ability to win one and doing everything one can to do that. Pens and Stillers ownership does that every year. Hence their success.

Dealio? No way. Just because you're happy with the way the Bucs are, and our standards are different, doesn't mean I want to see you disappear. I still like your posts.

And you must have me confused with someone else. Until "Tomland" goes back to his early days of coaching philosophy, I don't see the Stillers making/winning a SB anytime soon. While I'm a huge fan, I will never be one to cheerlead against reality. I will say, I see the Bell suspension being a good thing for this team. Keeping the "run first" mentality away is a great thing.

They have compared to Kane and Toews.

Exactly. The lack of supporting cast is driven by poor management and short term thinking, not by the high salaries of a few players. Seems quite the opposite of the Pirates, actually. A team that has full cupboards of young talent, a cost controlled roster, and depth.
