Some Info Please!
My 22-year-old daughter is moving to the Pittsburgh area. She has been told to look for a place (apartment) in Fox Chapel. That area will be close to where she is working. She is moving from Phoenix, AZ. Any advise on cost of living, apartments, safe areas, etc., is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help!

I would try craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums for apartment listings.
If she is into living in an area with other young people, walking distance to bars, shops, etc., then perhaps fox chapel isn't the best. Don't get me wrong, Fox Chapel is extremely nice and a great place to live, it just may not be as fun as Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, etc.

Yes, Fox Chapel is a well to do suburb that could be quite boring for a young professional.
Shadyside is where a lot of the young professionals hang out. It's safe, trendy, and very upscale.

Thank you! She will be working just east of Aspinwall, so I think Shadyside is out. She needs to be close to work. Is there affordable apartments in that area?

Seriously, just go to craiglist, see if there is something in aspinwall and look up the address. If the address isn't in the ad, email to ask for it. I'm sure there are some good options.

Shadyside is not that far, it would be so worth moving there, or even into Highland Park near the park. She would have less than a ten minute drive to work.

I wouldn't live in Fox Chapel if I were her. Very nice, but very expensive, and has been suggested, boring as all Hell. Unless she is in well with the Heinz Family odds are she won't meet to many people she will want to hang around with. As others have suggested, Shadyside is nice and way better for a younger person.

Thank you all!
One of the posters said that my daughter would have a 10-minute drive to work from Shadyside to East of Aspinwall. Understand that here in Phoenix, it takes a long time to get to work because we are so widespread. Looking on the map of the Pittsburgh area, it is hard for us to judge distances. Anyway, thanks again for your input.
Another question: What would you suggest would be an easy way to get to East of Aspinwall from Shadyside?
In the words of the late Dudley Moore in the movie (I cannot for the life of me remember the title - I think it was Arthur?) "As you probably have surmised by now..." we have never been anywhere so far East!

Easiest way in my opinion is........take Negley from Shadyside all the way to the end in Highland Park. You will end up at a stop sign at Highland Park and a very tall high rise apartment complex. You go through that stop sign, and then you are at another stop sign which you will turn left. This street is called "One Wild Place" which takes you right down the middle of the Pittsburgh Zoo. You will follow it down hill untill it comes to an end and you can only turn left or right. You turn right, and you will see an on ramp for the Highland Park Bridge. You take that, cross the bridge, and immediately across the bridge you will see an exit for Aspinwall......get off there, and there you go. Very simple.
