If you had an unsupervised church festival on Carson street on a Friday night then yes, that's precisely what you should expect.

By the way, people ARE animals... although they are often domesticated, they do require supervision.. especially teens. i work with them a lot, so I know this for a fact.

Since moving to Pittsburgh, I have gone to festivals in rural parts of PA and have never experienced the type of violence occurring south and southeast of the city. There is no security and no fighting at late night events. I've heard Erie is getting bad too. My guess is this may be a "city thing".

My guess is it's a teenager thing, no matter where it occurs. We had fights amongst teenagers in the rural area where I grew up. The main difference? In rural areas the majority of people need access to a car in order to attend the festival so there might be 30 teenagers at one festival while in the city you can get there by public transportation or by walking. This greatly increases the number of teenagers that can gather at one event.

The South Side used to have something called the South Side Street Fair or something like that. From memory it got out of control and it was discontinued. This was about 15 years ago.

Just read the story about this in the Tribune-Review. According to the church deacon, the crowds were larger this year because they shortened the length of he festival. Instead of six days it was three. By 9:30, the crowd had gotten too large and was spilling onto Brownsville Road. That's when church officials and police decided to disperse the crowd and that's when the fights broke out.

So it wasn't roving bands of criminals out to terrorize, which is what a caller stated last hour on a KDKA radio talk show, or the fault of the Bhutanese immigrants who have settled in the area, which I also heard on KDKA. Of course, the people who were calling in probably don't even know where Carrick is.

And let me also quote from local coverage...

"Police made no arrests, and no injuries were reported."

These were local teens... not necessarily criminals. People on here are so often willing to jump to extreme characterizations whenever given the chance. I don't think it helps further the discussion.

Weren't you the one posting earlier that the church should have expected this? That's pretty extreme, given it has never happened since 1930's.

Same thing in our city. We no longer have a county fair due to punks disrupting the fun of many others. It was held here at the fairgrounds for decades. Another city got it and quite a distance away so the creeps have no access to getting there. The parish up the road not having their festival due to same thing.

Well it looks like they're going to still have a concert for the parish now instead.

It also appears the KKK took over the comments.
