Terrible, absolutely terrible. Those kids should be ashamed of themselves.

Seriously. Some teens brawled on a Saturday night? How is this worthy of a thread? Were there weapons involved? How many kids were taken to the hospital? How many taken into police custody? What was the church-provided security doing during all of this?

Follow the link to see the news report. The festival has been an annual event since the 1930s. It is a big deal in that community and is the main fundraiser for the church.

Security at a Church? Shouldn't need it, and I'm sure they never did back in the '30's. Sad to say, that area has been and still is in decline.

Church festivals had city and borough cops volunteer for security details in the past. Mostly to protect the money earned at the various gambling and drinking concessions at this kind of event.

I don't know why this got out of hand, you'd think that the various men of the church would have been able to control the children a lot better- churches have traditionally had successful festivals in areas a lot tougher than Carrick.

Did they cancel the gambling then, or just move it inside?

It should have been clear from my questions that I watched the "news" report... if that's what you're calling it. If there's a story here, let's hear it. All the relevant detail seems to be completely missing from this "news" report.

I think the fact that there were so many teens fighting in an area where there were families, likely including kids and elderly people, would be enough to close it down before the violence escalates. Unfortunately, when groups of people fight, they don't look around to make sure they aren't knocking over innocent bystanders. I'm sure the church didn't want the liability and there usually isn't much security at such things because there usually aren't brawls at church events.
