Pop City to go on hiatus - Pittsburgh Business Times

The online magazine Pop City will go on a hiatus soon and will be be back in October or somewhere around there. Although I still check it out every week, it is not early as good as it was four or five years ago. It started to re-hash old news and info as if every issue was geared towards newcomers who were clueless about Pittsburgh. Within the past year or so, they seem to have more of their top stories about other cities. Not that those cities don't deserve great pub. They just seemed to shift their focus. Hopefully they can right the ship in few months.

Many of their editors and contributors moved to NextPittsburgh. Not sure why, but you can go over there for what PC used to be.

I read Next Pittsburgh more, too. I believe a new owner took over Pop City last year and let the editor go. It went downhill from there. She moved over to NextPittsburgh and it's a much more lively place for news and information.

While Pop City is on it's hiatus, their website is having a retrospective from their inaugural year, 2006. There are some interesting articles on Lawrenceville etc. Nine years ago is not that long ago for those of who were old then and simply older now. But for those who were of college age give or take circa 2006, nine years seems a bit longer and changes seem more obvious. Anyway, one thing that is obvious to me reading Pop City from 2006 is how superior it was in it's early days as opposed to the last few years.
