I thought it would be neat to start a thread of things that we would like to see done in Pittsburgh in our lifetime, but probably will not see happen. I know it can get silly. I would like to have the ideas to have some bit of seriousness to them, but not likely to happen because they are pipe dreams.
I for one, would like to see Pitt Football go back to campus. "Where Ya Gonna Put it?" Yeah, that's a bit of a problem. A few years back I was holding out hope about an idea a grass roots organization of Pitt Alumni had to put it in Panther Hollow. This would have been an incredible sight to have the Cathedral of Learning towering high above the northern end zone of the sunken stadium. What a great collegiate experience that would be. As it stands CMU has been moving into that area over the last few years with more plans on the way, so that idea is dead, not that it was ever alive. The only other area in the Oakland vicinity to put it would be the Schenley Park Sports Plex and Disc Football Field. Few trees would need to be uprooted and there would be room for some parking. Of course, this would cause tailgating in Schenley Park and people would have no regard for nature. None of these will ever happen in my lifetime. I just think that Heinz Field is a sterile atmosphere for Pitt. When they average 40,000 a game, that leaves a sea of yellow seats that don't hide for prospective recruits. Most of the recruits who choose Pitt seem to do so over the Bowling Green's, Akron's and Toledo's as opposed to Michigan, Alabama, and Ohio State. Sure, they get some good local players and a few others. I just think an on campus facility of around 52,000 would be the ticket. Anybody else have a pipe dream?

The revitalization and preservation of the business districts in the boros....Mt. Oliver, Stowe / Rocks, Wilkinsburg, Pitcairn, McKeesport, Duquesne, Homestead, etc., etc. All of the older towns that have fallen on hard times. That's my dream.

At this point rebuilding the Davis Avenue Bridge seems like a pipe dream.

Having a few Oakland and East End bound bus routes from the North Side besides the 54 would be nice too.

Yeah, my pipe dream is merely the return of infrastructure we had in 2000.

Reestablishing transit connections between the North Side with the West End and Mt. Washington isn't likely to happen either.

I really wish they would run the T back thru Brookline. I guess it’s not really “necessary” but it would have been very easy for it to drop off onto West Liberty before the Dawn Ave station, then left up Brookline Blvd, and then reconnect with the Blue Line down near Jacob Street. Actually, the overall return of street cars would be my pipe dream, well that and perhaps the removal of the asphalt from overtop all of our virtually maintenance free Belgium block streets.

Major T expansions. Plural.

A larger park system similar to those in Ohio.
