Not to disparage Pittsburgh, but this "research" has Cincinnati as #1 in recreation.

And that about sums up my opinion on this topic.

Yeah, can't believe it's not Columbus!

Staycations?

Is that supposed to be a word for a smaller scale vacation?

Come on people... this wasn't hard:

stay·ca·tion

A vacation spent in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.

I think Pittsburgh is so good for staycations because our day-tripping opportunities are so limited. Within a two-and-a-half-hour driving radius, which is my own personal upper limit for day-tripping, we have Erie; Cleveland; the Laurel Highlands; and that's pretty much it. You can also throw in things like Cheat Lake near Morgantown; Cook's Forest; McConnell's Mill State Park; and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH. Once you've exhausted all of this you're hard-pressed to find more. For example, on Tuesday I was hoping to finally get to Erie for the first time this summer, but inclement weather made me scramble at the last-minute to find a new destination. I chose Johnstown, which ended up being a very depressing place, because I needed to do indoors-oriented things, and I wanted to see the flood museum.

We are the day-trip for most people in a two-and-a-half-hour driving radius, whether we like it or not, because we are surrounded by a mixture of rugged wilderness; hick towns; or declining Rust Belt cities. I never find myself at a loss for things to do IN the city, but when I get the nomadic itch to hop in the car on a day off and drive somewhere else for fun I'm tired of doing the same few things because of our isolation.

It's probably all those parks in Cranberry that bumped it up the list.

(Sorry. I'll go now.)

Nope, the criteria is actually pretty clear here. They just take the number of particular type of amenities (within the city limits) per 100,000 of the city population. For example, Pittsburgh is #5 on the list in terms of available Zoo&Aquariums. I'm aware of only one of those in the city.

So given the population of only ~300,000, the ratio of 0.333 Zoos per every 100,000 of the city population is pretty darn good.

In fact, a part of the issue with the methodology is that they did not include the suburban data.

NYC #67 on Food and Entertainment? I know it's based on population, but :
I'll take the #2 rating for Pittsburgh for food and the #7 overall rating, but looking at the chart, it is misleading criteria.

These lists are always misleading.
